In order to achieve this, Tots & Techs provides technical assistance to states to help them enhance the use of adaptations with infants and toddlers and conducts a national research program about use of adaptations and assistive technology (AT). The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) have released a new Early Childhood Education Professional Development: Training and Technical Assistance Glossary (2011), which is meant to provide common understandings, or starting points, for individuals who provide professional development (PD), state policy makers, early education advocates, and program administrators working to connect PD activities and initiatives.

The Autism Programs funded through the State General Fund Program of DDSD offers programs and supports specifically for individuals with autism in different regions of New Mexico. There are now programs for children aged 5-18 to receive adaptive skill building and recreational respite services. Children who are younger may be served through the University of New Mexico Center for Development and Disability to receive intensive parent home training. Preliminary Results of First Major Survey on Wandering and Elopement Among Individuals with ASD

A report on the inclination of children with autism spectrum disorders to go missing from safe places and that would put them at risk for trauma, injury, or even death. A survey completed by the Interactive Autism Network at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, reports that about half of the children with autism surveyed wander and "bolt" from safe areas.
