Clinical Services Bureau

The Clinical Services Bureau (CSB) was established to enhance health, safety and functioning for New Mexicans with developmental disabilities through quality therapy services. The CSB works statewide to provide collaboration, coordination, quality assurance and improvement, training and educational resources and expertise in areas of Assistive Technology, Participatory Approach to Therapy, Aspiration Prevention and Health Promotion Initiatives.

The CSB partners with DDSD regional nurses to provide consultation and dissemination of health-related information. Therapy services are coordinated through the Therapy Services Unit that offers technical assistance, training and expertise in Assistive Technology, durable medical equipment services and other supports. Training and Educational Resources are coordinated through the University of New Mexico and the Center for Developmental Disability and the Continuum of Care Project.

Assistive Technology (AT) resources such as the AT fund were established to support the Participatory Approach philosophy. This fund provides grants of up to $250 that may be used to purchase AT devices and materials. To request a brochure or an application contact AT.Coord@state.nm.us. The Participatory Approach to Therapy is based on the idea that no individual is too disabled to benefit from Assistive Technology and other supports.

The Aspiration Prevention Program provides expertise in aspiration risk evaluation, promotion of safety and management of individuals with oral-motor/swallowing dysfunction. The program also provides technical assistance to reduce the risk of aspiration for individuals with developmental disabilities on the DD Waiver. The Health Promotion Initiative focuses on reducing preventable risk, early recognition of symptoms in individuals with developmental disabilities and the implementation of prevention intervention techniques.   For more information contact Aspiration.Coord@state.nm.us.
