2007 DDSD Statewide Awards
The Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD) honored the following people and agencies for demonstrating excellence in Meaningful Day services.  Awards were given in the areas of Best Employer and Employee, Individual Accomplishment, Professional Achievement, Provider Excellence, and Best Community Membership practices.

Outstanding Employee: Carmen Lasiter

Carmen Lasiter is Daniel Madrid’s most outstanding employee at Daniel’s Mobile Newsstand. Carmen Lasiter, a job coach at Tabosa, has supported Daniel for eight years.

Carmen Lasiter works with Daniel Madrid to make Daniel’s Mobile Newsstand a success. Seeing this business team together, it is clear how much Carmen and Daniel enjoy and value each other. Carmen presents herself as Daniel’s employee by wearing the same t-shirt and cap that Daniel wears. She regards Daniel as the boss. Carmen helps Daniel figure out what his customers like and don’t like to buy.

Carmen and Daniel - Daniel's Mobile NewsstandCarmen says she really enjoys working with Daniel in his business. She notices that the business has done wonders for Daniel. He feels more secure, enjoys talking to his customers and coming to each of the businesses on his route.
