2007 DDSD Statewide Awards
The Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD) honored the following people and agencies for demonstrating excellence in Meaningful Day services.  Awards were given in the areas of Best Employer and Employee, Individual Accomplishment, Professional Achievement, Provider Excellence, and Best Community Membership practices.

Successful Transition To Community Employment From Adult Habilitation Services: Team Support to Success

Fred and Jane Weis, Sharon’s Family Living Providers, Adelante and other team members supported Sharon to successfully move from Adult Habilitation Services to community supported employment. This team helped Sharon find her job at Sonic and keep it.

Sharon wanted a job of her own and decided to leave Adelante mobile work crew where she had worked for five years. Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) helped Sharon look into employment opportunities and tested Sharon’s skills to see what she could do. Adelante and DVR helped Sharon realize her dream through working at Sonic. Sharon’s job at Sonic is to clean the parking lot and the signs at the ordering stations. She is a very hard worker, always helps people and does not waste time at work. Tracey, the manager at Sonic, really appreciates her being there.

Fred and Jane made a little movie of Sharon and her work. They said, “We made an electronic scrap book called “Work” and we go around with a DVD player and show it to people.” Fred said, “Sharon gets along with everyone just fabulously.” Fred and Jane Weis have been Sharon’s Family Living providers for the past ten years.
