2007 ddsd statewide directors meeting HONARABLE MENTION CERTIFICATE RECIPIENTS |
Honorable Mention: Eduardo Morales, Business Owner of the Year: Nan's Pisas for his entrepreneurial spirit. Eduardo lives in Clovis and is supported by Eastern New Mexico Rehabilitative Services for the Handicapped (ENMRSH). Eduardo likes to make things out of beads. He chose his business name for his nickname Nan and the word "Pisas." The staff at ENMRSH helped him to get his business license as he departed the business office at City Hall in CLovis. "Finally, I'm self-employed" Eduardo said. As his business grew and he got busier he wanted to figure out a way to make more money in the same amount of time. Eduardo's team with support of the New Mexico Employment Institute, came up with the idea of using more expensive materials, like really good beads, wire thread, and crystals, in his work. They also helped him think of unusual items to make out of beads like overhead fan pulls. This expanded his line of beautiful light-catching creations and increased sales. As a result, his business made $150 at his first attempt to sell his new designs.
In the photo above, Eduardo is hard at work making a bracelet for an order he received from Donna Petree, an employee of High Plains Federal Credit Union. When he set up his business bank account with her, she asked him to make a beaded bracelet. Photo on left, Donna Petree poses with Eduardo Morales.
