2007 DDSD Statewide Awards
The Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD) honored the following people and agencies for demonstrating excellence in Meaningful Day services.  Awards were given in the areas of Best Employer and Employee, Individual Accomplishment, Professional Achievement, Provider Excellence, and Best Community Membership practices.

2007 ddsd statewide directors meeting HONARABLE MENTION CERTIFICATE RECIPIENTS

Mark Kerns receives Honorable Mention for Business Owner of the Year for successfully building the business of his dreams selling his artwork.

Mark Kerns, with the support of Adelante Development Center, began his art career by taking lessons under two artists, Agnes O'Brien and Beth Anne, who were very important influences in his career.  Mark works independently and is a successful artist.  He likes to work with vibrant colors and with a variety of subjects such as landscapes, still like and portraits.

Mark exhibits his work at juried shows like Valencia County Fair and has won first, second and third place ribbons.  He started as an 'amateur artist,' but the show promoters asked him to change to the 'professional artist' category when he had success selling his artwork.

Mark won "Best of Show" among his professional peers.  That winning artwork now hangs in the office of Senator Pete Domenici.  He says, "I enjoy photography and creating my art."

DDSD congratulates Mark Kerns for receiving Honorable Mention for Business Owner of the Year.
