2010 DDSD Statewide Director’s Community Inclusion Awards
The Developmental Disabilities Supports Division (DDSD) honored the following individuals, community organizations and business for demonstrating excellence in Community Inclusion. Awards were given in the categories of business ownership, outstanding employee of a business owner, community based adult habilitation, individual community membership, team champions supporting individual community membership, full community inclusion, case manager employment champion, employee of the year and employer of the year.

2010 DDSD STATEWIDE DIRECTORS COMMUNITY INCLUSION AWARDS

The 2010 award winner for full community inclusion is Mr. Victor Borunda.

Victor’s desire is to help others. He’s worked as part of the March of Dimes walk, Salsa Fest, Toss-No-Mas Community Clean-up, the 4th of July parade and many other worthy community events.

People in the community who have worked alongside Victor of know him by name. He’s well known in Las Cruces as a volunteer and wears T-shirts to celebrate his contributions. People approach him when he’s shopping, when he’s at the library and at church to talk with him.

Victor is secretary of the Las Cruces Aktion Club, a Kiwanis Club Affiliate. The goal of the club is to serve the community. Victor participates in every scheduled project.

Victor has met the mayor and the District Governor of Kiwanis.

Victor’s Interdisciplinary Team, friends, family and his provider, Tresco, encourage him to participate in the community and make sure he has support in the community at the Flea Market, getting coffee and other events.

Victor works at Bureau of Land Management sites and tells friends he has a job and works hard. Victor uses the city bus to get around and likes to talk with the drivers.
