As part of the Healthy Kids, Las Cruces, the New Mexico Department of Health and the City of Las Cruces, in collaboration with the Las Cruces Public Schools, created the Passport to Health incentive program to keep elementary school-aged children active and engaged over the summer.
Children are encouraged to participate in “healthy activities” offered throughout the Las Cruces Community. Some examples include, going to the pool, taking a summer dance or martial arts class, participating in the Branigan Library summer reading program, picking vegetables from the Community of Hope garden, etc. We want students and their families to take advantage of the wonderful programs and opportunities provided to the Las Cruces community.
Children can pick up a Passport to Health at their school office, Branigan Library, Meerscheidt Recreation Center and our Passport to Health partners listed below. Each visit to a healthy activity site will earn them a stamp for their Passport. Once they complete the Passport, it can be returned to the Branigan Library, the Meerscheidt Center or the Department of Health to be entered into a raffle to win prizes. There is no limit to the number of Passports that can be submitted by each child. The challenge runs from June 1st to August 30th.
The prize drawing will take place on Sunday, August 30, at the monthly Ciclovia event to be held at Young Park from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
