            Walking onto Wellness (WOW) Project

Get Out and Enjoy Our City

The Walking onto Wellness (WOW) Project is a community-based campaign to encourage residents of Las Cruces and surrounding areas to take advantage of the wonderful climate and natural beauty of the region to improve personal health and fitness.  Walking is a cheap and easy way for individuals, families, and neighbors to get together and have some fun while getting more active.  This site will help guide you to begin and continue your own walking program.  Check back often as we will update the walking map regularly with more trails and places where you may enjoy this form of exercise.

Only 51% of adult New Mexicans meet the national recommendation from CDC (2007) for physical activity, which  is defined as reported moderate-intensity activities in a usual week (i.e., brisk walking, bicycling, vacuuming, gardening, or anything else that causes small increases in breathing or heart rate) for at least 30 minutes per day, at least 5 days per week.  You may call 575-528-5063 to speak with a health educator about how you can take some small steps (or even strides) to make a big difference in your life.
