Project M Public Health Interns Valley Hoopz The Spot - Teen Dance SVMIP play Barber Shop Outreach Media Campaign

Valley Hoopz

An annual basketball tournament sponsored by the SVMIP, with the New Mexico Teen Pregnancy Coalition and the City of Albuquerque.  This event provides outreach and health education to young people, particularly Hispanic males.  Valley Hoopz is not just another basketball tournament!  What is truly unique about Valley Hoopz is that it combines athletic competition with educational classes to address many issues that are problematic for youth.  Teams are required to attend one of four classes in order to compete in the tournament. The classes are violence prevention and anger management, drugs and alcohol awareness, pregnancy prevention and relationship & communication issues.  Prizes are awarded to participants during the classes and at the tournament itself.
