14 counties reduced teen births by 20% (1998-2003)

by at least 10%

Challenge 2005 asked counties to reduce their teen birth rate 20%, by 2005.

County programs cannot do it alone. Promising approaches to preventing teen pregnancy include:

  • Strong connection between parents and teens

  • Comprehensive sexuality education

  • Male involvement

  • Service learning - programs combining classroom and community service

Now is not the time to lose interest in further reducing teen pregnancy. Policymakers, community leaders, parents, and youth need to continue to work together to provide our youth the opportunity to reach their full potential.
